The Metro Farm Aquaponics Entrepreneurship Programme (MAE) is a kick start entrepreneurship programme that is tailored to help the local farming community and add new spice to elevate the dwindling interest in the farming scene. With high technology and smart automation, it aims to heighten awareness and renew interest to the new generations of farmers. Metro Farm has plans to establish itself as a key contributor towards fostering renewed interest in farming. Our MAE programme revolves mainly around the following:

Agriculture and Aquaculture. We provide seminars, comprehensive set of lessons and training materials to educate existing and new farmers on how to setup and operate Smart Automation Aquaponics Farm. By using our methodology and list of approved system and equipment, our members on the MAE programme can accelerate their farming start up and tread a smoother journey to start their farms and begin production. With our network of suppliers, advisors from Ministers such as Dr Janil, relevant authorities and organizations, we can advise and assist members to embark on the right process and seek capital funding through various channels. In addition, we can secure bulk pricing from reliable suppliers that give us competitive rates which keep recurring costs stable and lower. The MAE programme also provides a common farming community for members to get support, share ideas and experiences and build up networking channels where they can offer their services or goods to other members. We achieved that through physical engagements and through social media platforms such as MAE Forum, MAE Facebook and MAE Twitters.

Community. Members that have benefited from our MAE programme can then tap on our farming community that embraces monitoring through Smart Automation Technologies. The aquaponics farms can be networked together and monitored by the community with the guidance of Metro Farm specialists and moderators. Instead of the farmers having to face any farming issues alone, we can have a community of MAE farmers working together to monitor all the farms together and render their assistance whenever necessary. Good practices and knowledge can be shared through such platforms too. MAE Farmers can also start their own entrepreneurship program to encourage, teach and train interested parties in their community to start their own Aquaponics farming using Oceansing Aquaponics System (OAS), even for urban areas such as community centres, resident’s committees and even HDB flats. Members can get teaching materials, support and competitive farm infrastructure, equipment and supplies from us on a regular basis for them to help other members in their own entrepreneurship program.Education. Education plays an integral part of our MAE programme to reach out to the population. Teachers can make use of our entrepreneurship programme and engage our services to setup green clubs/classes or school aquaponics gardens for their own self consumption. We provide customized programs for schools or educational institutions to help them kick start their own aquaponics/hydroponics farming gardens and aid learning for their students. Schools and Institutions with existing gardens can engage our services to convert the garden into Aquaponics Gardens and drastically reduces the maintenance cost and operating cost. Through the educational track, we can show young Singaporeans that farming can be easily implementable and does not require high costs. Farming may not necessarily be easy but with our smart automation technologies, tested and proven formulae and the right equipment, we can reduce the mistakes and set people on the right path right from the start.

UPGRADING FARMERS THROUGH THE MAE

With a growing global population, many countries face the issue of not having enough food to sustain their own population. Hence, the food industry has become a viable and profitable market that many governments and big organizations are looking into. With advanced technologies and smart automation, it has enabled farmers to greatly increase their food production levels and modernize their farming processes, while using less space and less manpower.

The MAE programme operates on a self-sustainable model that aims to educate and impart knowledge to farmers to produce organic vegetables and fishes, and providing the necessary infrastructure, equipment, supplies and support for their farms to be sustainable. The MAE programme has also received recognition and support from various ministers and government bodies as a viable initiative to promote farming in Singapore.

KEY BENEFITS OF THE MAE PROGRAMME

1. The MAE is built based on a viable and sustainable business model with aquaponics farming as the main focus.

2. The MAE is based on Oceansing Aquaponics System (OAS) which has its base design mirroring the well-known UVI Aquaponics method that has been tested and proven for over 10 years of field research to enhance yields and profitability.

3. The MAE has deployed and implemented the system with suitable equipment and proven the reliability and interoperability.

4. The MAE utilizes the OAS system that can increase existing production levels within a reduced land size.

5. The MAE imparts knowledge and educates aquaponics to traditional soil planting farmers, which helps to enhance their skill set.

6. The MAE creates a farming community of farmers and specialists that help members and share ideas. It provides a safety net for members to fall back on and seek help.

7. The MAE provides a common networking channel where members can socialize, network and gain experience from the community.

8. The MAE support for new members to follow the right processes and apply funds from the relevant authorities or organizations.

9. The MAE gets support and sound advice from ministers and government bodies.

10. The MAE has also setup a farming forum that provide help and support to farmers, such as sharing of suppliers, networks and contacts.

11. The MAE supports existing farmers and educators using OAS to give their efforts in conducting similar MAE programme to educate more people in using OAS to improve their farming experience and productivity.
